What is Integrative Health Coaching?


Are there health behavior changes that you’ve wanted to make but either haven’t known how or haven’t been successful in the past? Has a new health concern arisen that you want to pay particular attention to? Health coaching effectively motivates and supports health behavior change through a structured partnership between the client and coach. A coach is like a “personal trainer” except the focus will be on your whole self. The coach helps the client develop and realize their optimal health vision through inquiry, personal discovery and accountability. Integrative Health Coaching is not just about your physical well-being; it is also about you as a whole person: your values, goals, work, balance, fulfillment and life purpose. ​


Why is it effective in helping people realize their optimal health?

  1. ​Coaches work with the whole person. They listen to your concerns and ask powerful questions to help motivate you to make the changes you desire.

  2. Coaches spend time exploring what is most important to you in your health and allow you to choose your course of action.

  3. Coaches guide you through a process to maximize the possibility of your success.

  4. You and your coach work in partnership to identify obstacles to change and create strategies for moving forward toward your goals.

  5. Coaches support you in tracking your weekly progress and hold you accountable for your commitments.

  6. Coaches provide additional resources for making healthy behavior changes.

What are appropriate topics for health coaching?


The coaching relationship is unique. The coach and the client form a partnership to better equip you to realize your optimal health vision based on your own goals and values. Any concern that gets in the way of taking care of your optimal health is the perfect subject with which to begin coaching. Therefore, any topic you want to bring up that you think will contribute to your optimal health is an appropriate topic for Integrative Health Coaching.

What happens during the coaching process?

With tools to help you rediscover your highest vision and purpose for your overall health & wellbeing, a personalized health plan and with the support of your health coach, you will be well on your way to achieving your greatest health possible. Many of us are used to thinking about our health only when we are sick. Whole personal health and wellbeing means understanding what your life goals are and what contributes to your sense of wellness over time. This may be a new way to think about your health. As you begin to think more deeply and reflect on what you want your health for, you will realize that YOU are the ultimate owner of your life and health and it is the choices you make on a daily basis that have the power to bring you closer to health, or further away from it. How do we accomplish optimal health and wellbeing? It takes work as it requires a level of partnering that is not typically found in the traditional medical model. It means un-doing a slew of bad habits that we have succumbed to over the years. Research has shown time and again that up to 80% of chronic dis-eases are due to poor lifestyle choices. This means, that our health really is in our own hands; we have the ability to reverse chronic diseases and see a dramatic improvement in our health through healthy lifestyle choices. The use of evidence based health coaching is the vehicle that does just that.


Being in the driver's seat of our health requires a good map and requires us to "wake up" from being on "autopilot." It is important to know our starting point and destination. This means knowing what your health is like now and what you would like it to be going forward. This is where I, your health coach will help bridge that gap. Throughout the process, you will be guided through a process of deep self-reflection which will spark insight and knowledge, unleashing your inner motivation and empowering you to propel from where you are now in your health to where you want to be. Throughout the entire coaching process, you will reach various goals, improve your performance and enhance your quality of life. We use reporting, exploring and a consistent commitment to action to move forward, all the while making sure that your personalized health plan fits into your own life and is aligned with your personal vision, values, and aspirations. This proactive working relationship will accelerate your progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. This will catalyze and deeply enhance your overall sense of health and wellbeing so you can get back to thriving and doing the things that matter most with the people you love.
